“HOME”

/MARCH 2023/

“HOME” is a moment of stillness capturing love, harmony, and warmth in the home of artist Hoang Dinh and his children.

“HOME” is where thoughts are expressed through masterpieces on the walls.

“HOME” is a father’s protection, a mother’s care, the tenderness and affection imprinted in the children’s hearts.

“HOME” is more than the story of artist Hoang Dinh and his children Minh Thuy, Chuc Anh, Khanh Linh, and Khanh Nguyen.

“HOME” is a collection of individual experience, perspective, the expression of perpetual longing for days passed and reflection of our childhood filled with love.

“HOME” is the greatest gifts that will be passed on from generation to generation with love, color, emotion.

FATHER & DAUGHTER

These are for you.

We grew up in this charming 4-story house in the corner of the small alley. Through the windows, we saw a neighborhood growing, buildings sprouting, street vendors passing by every hour, and a beer restaurant that keeps getting louder and louder around us every dinnertime. 1, 2, 3, Dzô! 2, 3, Dzô! We remained unconcerned, in the middle of this madness.

17 years went by. We relocated, but the beautiful memories remain. Looking back from half the globe away, I reminisce about the small memories of you and me. I grew up looking up to you as an artist, a creator, and a father.

The things that you like to talk about the most are – art techniques and the society we live in.

The things that make you iconic are – your unique beard and the remarkable height that I inherit.

The things that you paint the best are – rice crops, yellow hues, Hanoi, and the world around you.

The things you grew up with throughout your childhood are – the Do Son sea with the fishes and sea creatures populating the water.

The side jobs that you do with passion are – aquarium landscape designer, annual birthday sign maker using contact paper, and personal family photographer during our vacation trips.

The place you love to hide is – the 4th floor of our old house in the secret rooftop garden, where you used to hear “Ba ơi, xuống ăn cơm!” (Dad! It’s time to eat!) 3 times a day.

The most memorable day that I spent with you is – the day I modeled with a flower in hand for you to paint a portrait of me. It was “Dandelion”.

The things that I admire the most are – your endless creativity, your hard work and passion for art, and your love for the family.

Dad, these are us.
