FIGURES AT FAULT - Awareness of Consumption
"The body is the living representation of the offense".
/SPRING 2018/
With our lack of recognition for over-consumption of cardboard, we want to inform the user through self-sacrifice. Like many religious fasting rituals, people do not ear nor drink to atone for their sins. We would like to raise awareness of over-consumption by putting the user through an uncomfortable as their sacrifice for cardboard consumption.

We pay less than $2 for the chocolate bar or bag of chips that comes out. Have we ever given a thought about how much it costs to make that candy bar? Or how much cardboard is used to transport? That candy bar does not cost $1.25. When we get in front of the vending machine, we receive more than we give. With that in our mind, we want to do the opposite and be the one to give more and receive less.

The Small Room of Reflection
Small space creates discomfort as people go through it. It is a way of punishment: crawling, kneeling and self-realization. The height limitations will make standing straight uncomfortable which gives the user only unconventional options to go through the space. As they move towards the wall, the light shining behind the user creates a shadow in front of them as a copy of them self, onto the cardboard they can see how big their shadow is. They are part of the society of consumerism of cardboard, the biggest player of cardboard consumption.
Site
- We chose the corridor as our site for the installation. This corridor fits our space limitation of a one person space. The long length of the corridor helps with the distance we needed to create the shadow. The two walls helps support the installation and pushes the sides to help create the form we wanted for the installation.
