DIALOGUE THROUGH INTERSECTIONS
/FALL 2018/
LIBRARY
As a teen library, it focuses on another dimension of a regular library, which is the aspect of self learning for kids, different from that of adults. In other words, the library becomes a space of ‘access to all’ - knowledge, technology, networking, and so on. It is a network in which teens get access to all kinds of knowledge, both physical and virtual.
INTERSECTION
The intersections are formed between the different programs and activities in the library; the computer area intersects with the book stacks area, which intersect with the sitting area, leading to the screening room. Focusing on the different forms of learning, the library creates a dialogue between the tangible and intangible, between the physical and virtual, between the traditional learning (via books) and the modern learning (through technology). Therefore, it creates a dynamic not only between the programs, but also an interaction between the teens within the social communal area.
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
Knowledge in library comes both through a tangible (books) and intangible (technology data) thresholds. Teens are in the age in which the learning process is important to see in a multi directional way. The intersection of the two forms the center of learning, in which they form a community among themselves in which communication also goes through the communication between themselves.
Physical and verbal communication becomes the spine of the body of knowledge, which branches out into the different ways to access knowledge; through the traditional books, the technology and the concrete teaching.

PROGRAM
The programs are planned on a spine of the site - the ‘spine’ of the library is served as the main communal sitting area, which concentrates all long term seated users into this hallway, where the frequency of interaction amplifies. From the spine, the different programs that are built into the library for knowledge access branch out into the sides - this includes book stacks (the tangible knowledge), the computer area (the intangible knowledge), and the screening room (the intangible knowledge).
2 types of seatings are available: the communal sofa which is the center of gathering; and the singular armchairs for more privacy in the public space.
